This week, the OIC student team of Gwanyong, Minsuk, Angela and Karen made their way to Lindley Hall, Westminster for the national final of the UK Senior Team Maths Challenge. They had qualified for this by winning the Oxfordshire regional final of this competition for talented teenage mathematicians, which is jointly organised by the UK Maths Trust and the Further Maths Support Programme. On the day, the team performed excellently, finishing in 14th place out of 85 teams in the final, and over 1400 from the regional rounds. The students were given a series of rounds, such as a cross-number, a shuttle round, and a relay round which also tested their speed-walking skills! The event also featured a poster round, for which our students had to research the topic of 'mathematics in bell-ringing' and then prepare a poster on the day, which has given them both arcane knowledge of the subject matter, and, more significantly for their future studies, experience in the process of making an appealing and informative poster. At OIC, we are very proud of the hard work, determination and mathematical skills that Gwanyong, Minsuk, Angela and Karen have shown.
