OIC Shanghai
In September 2008, Oxford International College (OIC) opened its first overseas centre in Shanghai, China. Like its partner institution in the UK, the College specialises in teaching British A-level courses.
The establishment of Oxford International College in China has been done through a partnership with British Education Ltd (www.behk.org), a Sino-British education company. The College works in partnership with one of the first and most successful private HE colleges in China, Xianda College of Economics and Humanities, which is closely linked and occupies part of the campus of Shanghai International Studies University (SISU).
The current student body is from throughout China, and we are looking forward to welcoming international students from the UK, Australia and other countries soon.
In their first set of AS examinations in January 2009, our first intake of students in Shanghai achieved the following overall results:
A – 61%
A/B – 68%
A-C – 82%
Pass – 98%
OIC Shanghai is the only school in China to have an exchange programme with Eton College and is presently developing further programmes with schools throughout the world, Current A-Level subjects on offer to Chinese students include: Economics, Physics, Mathematics and Further Mathematics. Foreign exchange students can also study English Language, English Literature, History and French. Other subjects can be arranged on request. There is a department of English as a Foreign Language (EFL), helping non-native speakers gain the proficiency they need for entry into the world's leading English speaking universities. The department offers one-to-one coaching for the students requiring additional support. Mandarin is taught in the place of English to native English speakers.
Our Staff
The Principal of OIC Shanghai is Dr. Oliver Kramer. As the previous Head of Chinese (Mandarin) at Eton College, Dr. Kramer has been able to establish a link between his past and present institutions. The chief beneficiaries will be the boys who participate in this annual exchange. His fluency in Mandarin puts Dr. Kramer in an ideal position to coordinate the School to the satisfaction of students and staff alike.
All Head of Departments are native English speakers and have taught extensively in countries all over the world. The teachers have a proven history of obtaining the best results from their students in China as well as in other countries, with highly impressive regularity: the Head of Physics can boast 80% A grades in past years, while the Head of Economics, given the even more challenging subject to a non-native speaker, has obtained 70% A grades in the last few years. Achieving these results in the UK would mean they would easily have been in the top 20 of boarding schools as ranked by Physics or Economics.
New centre opening in Qingdao
Following the success of the Shanghai campus, Oxford International College is delighted to announce the opening of our second centre in China at Qingdao in September 2009.
Oxford International College will occupy a prime building within the campus of the Qingdao International No. 1 School. This is a brand new development to be completed in summer 2009 which will offer both students and teachers state of the art teaching and extracurricular facilities, including smart boards in every classroom, an extensive library and a canteen.

Qingdao Campus
Excellent sporting facilities include a swimming pool, football pitch, basketball and netball pitches, and volleyball courts.
Boarding houses with electronic key card entry are located next to the school’s main building offering parents peace of mind that their children are in a secure and safe environment. No expense has been spared to ensure the highest quality of environment with every detail taken into consideration, – even the running tap water is LaoShan mineral water, supplied by China’s premier bottled water brand.
Qingdao Campus |
The city of Qingdao is in Shandong province on China’s north-eastern seaboard.
Lying on the south coast of the Shandong Peninsula, Qingdao is a city of picturesque
red-tiled roofs nestled between green hills and blue sea. The mild climate, the bathing
beach, and Mount Laoshan make Qingdao a popular health and holiday resort,
particularly in summer when visitors come here in droves for sightseeing and escaping
the heat.
Still showing signs of German influence in its architecture, the city is one of China’s
most dynamic and fastest growing cities. Host of the sailing events for the 2008
Olympic games the city has a keen sailing community. It is also home to China’s
most famous brewery, Tsingtao, which was founded in 1903 by German settlers.
