The GCSE is the national qualification taken prior to A-levels, usually over a course of two years. The IGCSE is the internationally recognised equivalent and is transferable between countries, allowing foreign students to continue their home country education in the UK.

At Oxford International College students are able to choose the type of study programme best suited to their individual needs from a range of programmes combining individual and group tuition. We offer inclusive boarding packages in superb, single en-suite rooms and studios at our brand-new student boarding house within 7 minutes walk of the college.

CSFC Group Programme

This one-year intensive programme is offered in partnership with Cardiff Sixth Form College (CSFC), the number 1 ranked A-level college in the UK. Combining the expertise of both our institutions, we are able to offer fully catered boarding and expert tuition in small classes with fees comparable to the traditional British boarding schools. Our international GCSE students will be placed with local host families. While it may take some time to adjust to cultural differences, the benefits of staying with a host family will certainly be worth it. Students' exposure to English will continue outside of the classroom providing them with more opportunities to hear and use English in a real life setting.

Students can take up to six subjects, five of which are compulsory:

  • Biology
  • Chemistry
  • English as Second Language
  • Maths
  • Physics

A sixth subject will be chosen from Additional Maths or Business Studies. This will be at the discretion of the college and will be based on the student's career choice. Students will also be enrolled in weekly IELTS classes to help them achieve their desired score.

Mini-Group and Individual Tuition Programmes

Depending on individual needs and circumstances, and usually taken over two years, these bespoke programmes consist of between 15 to 25 hours of tuition per week and are taught in mini groups with some individual tuition, or individual tuition only. The amount of tuition required is determined by the student's academic background, target grades and English language proficiency (for non-native English speakers). Most students begin their studies at the start of the academic year in September, however the flexibility of the tutorial system means that students can join us for a programme of individual tuition at any time during the year by arrangement. For the list of subjects available for mini-group tuition please apply to the college.
