New Shanghai centre opening September 2008

Oxford International College is delighted to announce the opening in September 2008 of our first overseas campus in Shanghai, Asia’s most vibrant city! The College will be located within the Xianda College of Economics and Humanities, Shanghai International Studies University (SISU), in the Hongkou district of the city. The establishment of the College is a joint venture between Oxford International College in the UK, and British Education Ltd., based in China. Both companies are UK owned and managed.

Founded in 1949, SISU is a key university in China, enjoying an excellent reputation at home and abroad. It is one of the most selective universities in China and is considered one of the top two universities in the country that specialise in teaching foreign languages.

Xianda College was founded within SISU in 2004 as one of the first independent colleges in Shanghai to be approved by the Ministry of Education. The College offers 13 undergraduate programmes in five disciplines, –  Linguistics, Literature, Economics, Law and Management. It boasts excellent teaching facilities, including computer rooms, multi-media rooms, a broadcasting room, language lab, media lab, etc. Oxford International College, Shanghai, will occupy the 7th floor within the 18-storey Xianda/SISU building.

The Principal of Oxford International College, Shanghai, will be Dr Oliver Kramer, currently Head of Chinese at Eton College. With strong links to Eton and Oxford via the owners and directors of the College, we plan to establish a unique blend of cutting edge teaching practice and methodology with a traditional English flavour.

Like it’s UK equivalent, the Shanghai campus will be a ‘sixth form’ college offering A-level qualifications. We will open in September 2008 by offering four core subjects at A-level: Economics, Maths, Further Maths and Physics. There will also be an EFL department offering a range of language qualifications in support of the A-levels. Most of our pupils will be Chinese nationals seeking entry to UK or other English speaking universities.
