Ms Tess St Clair-Ford is currently Head of Senior School at Harrow Shanghai, which she joined in August 2020. Prior to this, Tess taught at Epsom College in the UK for 5 years, where she was Head of Fifth Form at a time of enormous growth and progress at the College. Tess’ teaching career began in the international sector in Sri Lanka and spans 10+ years in leading independent schools in and around London, UK. Roles have included Head of English, Head of PSHE, Head of Year and Whole School Literacy Co-ordinator. In various roles, Tess has retained her focus on student well-being and how this complements and enhances academic outcomes and growth, both in boarding
schools and in day schools. She has enjoyed working with pupils to achieve impressive academic success and entrance into the world’s top universities, including being closely involved in students’ preparation for entry to Oxford and Cambridge by leading programmes for More Able students.
As an English Literature specialist, Tess has led teams of examiners of IGCSE English Literature with Cambridge Examinations for over 5 years. She has a Masters in Creative Writing which is a particular passion and she has published short stories and poems. Tess was educated at Lancing College in West Sussex and at the University of Cambridge, where she studied Social and Political Sciences. This has given her a lifelong fascination with culture, international relations and social philosophy. Outside of work, Tess and her husband have 3 children, and together they have loved travelling and living in Asia and around the world. Her precious free time is almost entirely spent reading books.
