Testing, Timing, and Tuning | Racetrack Day Brings STEM Learning to Life

Testing, Timing, and Tuning: Racetrack Day Brings STEM Learning to Life - F1 Race Track Day
Full Throttle to Success As Students Gear Up for F1 in Schools Regional Finals
Excitement filled the air as students from OIC took to the track for their highly anticipated Racetrack Day, an essential step in their preparations for the upcoming F1 in Schools Regional Finals on 6th February.
With their meticulously designed miniature F1 cars in hand, the team gathered to test their creation, measuring race times and collecting vital performance data. This hands-on experience provided an invaluable opportunity to fine-tune their design and optimise speed and aerodynamics before the big competition.

The session saw students engaging in detailed analysis, recording reaction times, top speeds, and acceleration data to assess the impact of their design choices. Using cutting-edge STEM techniques, including CAD software and CNC-machined components, teams worked collaboratively to identify areas for refinement and improvement.

“We’re really excited about how our car performed today,” said Team Principal of Ruthless, Amiran. “It’s been amazing to see our hard work come to life on the track. We’ve learned so much about aerodynamics, precision engineering, and teamwork throughout this project.”

The F1 in Schools programme is renowned for providing students with hands-on experience in engineering, project management, marketing, and financial planning—key skills that will benefit them in future STEM careers. The event was not only a chance to test their cars but also an opportunity to experience the thrill of competition, simulating the atmosphere they will face at the regional finals.

“Our students have worked incredibly hard, and today’s Racetrack Day was a fantastic way for them to apply their knowledge in a real-world setting,” said Vijay, Oxford International College's STEAM Lead and F1 in Schools Champion. “They’ve gained critical insights that will help them refine their car’s performance before the regional finals. We are proud of their dedication and can’t wait to see them in action on race day.”

A special mention goes to Vijay, OIC STEAM Lead, who has been instrumental in supporting students to make this happen. His dedication and expertise have been invaluable in guiding the teams through the project, ensuring they have the resources and knowledge needed to succeed.

With just days to go until the regional finals, students will now use their findings to make final adjustments, ensuring they are race-ready for what promises to be an exhilarating competition.

Stay tuned for more updates as our students race towards success in the F1 in Schools challenge!
