An Exceptional Student and Role Model
Throughout her time at OIC, Charmaine has consistently stood out for her intellectual curiosity, determination, and maturity. Alongside achieving at the very highest academic level, she has embraced opportunities across debating, economics, politics, leadership, and public speaking with genuine passion and purpose.
She was selected as one of only 30 students from more than 500 applicants for the Institute of Economic Affairs Future Thought Leaders programme, where she won the elevator pitch competition and received the Key Contributor Award. She has also represented OIC in a range of academic and debating events, including Oxford Model United Nations (Oxford MUN), Manchester China Schools Model United Nations (MCSMUN), and London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art Public Speaking (LAMDA Public Speaking).
Beyond her achievements, Charmaine has made a lasting impact within the college community through her kindness, humility, and willingness to support others. Whether leading MUN training sessions, organising conferences, or sharing her experiences with younger students, she has approached every opportunity with generosity and quiet confidence.
One of the Most Competitive Scholarships in Asia
Established by the Kwok Scholars Association and founded by Dr Walter Kwok, the Kwok Scholarship is one of the most competitive undergraduate scholarships available to students from Hong Kong and Mainland China who have earned places at the University of Oxford. Each year, only two students are selected based on academic excellence, leadership potential, character, and their commitment to contributing positively to society.
To receive the scholarship, Charmaine first had to secure an offer to study PPE at Oxford, one of the university’s most competitive and academically rigorous courses. This required exceptional academic results, outstanding admissions test performance, impressive written work, and success in Oxford’s rigorous interview process.
She then progressed through a separate scholarship selection stage, where candidates are assessed not only on academic achievement, but also on leadership, community impact, and their long-term vision for serving and improving society.
Charmaine distinguished herself throughout every stage of the process, making this achievement a truly remarkable recognition of both her talent and her potential.
We would like to say a big Congratulations to Charmaine.
