Daniel is an experienced historian specialising in British, Irish and European history. He is the author of the book Thomas Butler, Earl of Ossory, 1634-80: A Privileged Witness (Dublin, 2022) and has published his research in the Journal of The Butler Society.
Daniel’s fascination with history began in childhood. He credits a former teacher – a “walking encyclopaedia” of anecdotes and information – with encouraging Daniel to embark on his academic journey.
Having studied various aspects of medieval and early modern history, Daniel eventually came to focus his scholarship on the seventeenth century. He also commenced his career as a Senior Tutor at University College, Dublin, and continued at the University of Oxford as a History Tutor at Hertford College.
With more than a decade of teaching experience, Daniel was the Curriculum Manager of Humanities at Oxford Sixth Form College prior to joining OIC in 2021.
Daniel is a Fellow of the Royal Historical Society. He holds a PhD from University College, Dublin, and has also studied at the Diplomatic Academy of Vienna and the University of Oxford.
In the classroom, Daniel aims to transmit his passion for history while encouraging his students to ask questions and follow their interests. Daniel also runs the Current Affairs Club for Year 11 at OIC.
