Debate night during the induction week

Our Debating Society had the opportunity to put their public speaking skills to the test in front of our new cohort of students as they engaged in a Debate Night on Wednesday 1st September. The motion, “This House believes that Tiktok has ruined a generation”, put forward by our adjudicator and new Debate coach Sharon Chau, an OIC Alumni who is a current student at Oxford University, generated lively discussion in the audience of over 170 staff, students and parents.

The affirmative team, capably led by Debating President Bernice and supported by her experienced teammates Johnathan, Karlo and Lachlan, put forward a strong argument favouring the motion. Their opposition presented an equally impressive rebuttal, another experienced debater in Daniel, along with Adam, Josh and Neon, who all took to the stage to defend the social media platform and generation Y from the scathing attack launched by Bernice and co.

A series of thought-provoking follow-up questions from the crowd members proved that their curiosity had been piqued by the excellent speeches delivered by the Debating teams. OIC’s Debating Society will undoubtedly see some fresh faces among its ranks for the upcoming competitions in the Debate calendar this year!
