IWD2024 - IWD2024
Sharing stories of boldness and bravery
We caught up with Oluwatobi, OIC Year 13, Computer Science student, to discuss the importance of International Women's Day, football and being the only girl on the team!

I'm proud to contribute not only as a player on the men's team but also as someone who is actively working towards expanding opportunities for women in the sport.

Inspiring the next generation
"Playing for the OIC football team has been an incredible journey, and being the only woman on the men's team has presented its own set of challenges. It's not always easy competing against men, but it's a hurdle I've learned to navigate and embrace over time."

One of the things that make this experience truly special is the camaraderie among the players. The bond we share is second to none, and it goes beyond the confines of the field. We genuinely support each other, not only during intense matches but also in our personal lives. The team is like a second family, and the unity we have is a driving force behind our success. I really am proud to be part of a team that has achieved 4 wins out of 5 games so far.  It's a testament to the hard work and dedication we all put into our training and matches.

And a big part of our success can be attributed to our exceptional coaching staff. Matt, Lewy, Steve, and Jason have been instrumental in leading us to victory with their words of motivation. Their ability to inspire and push us to give our best on the field is incredible. It's not just about the technical aspects of the game; they've instilled a winning mentality and a sense of unity within the team. Their guidance has made a significant difference, and I feel fortunate to be part of a team where the coaching staff is so dedicated to our success.

Interestingly, this experience has inspired me to take things a step further. Recognizing the importance of creating opportunities for women in football, I took the initiative to start the OIC Girls Football Team. It's been an exciting venture, organizing training sessions and games to not only enhance our skills on the field but also to promote fitness and inclusivity.
