OIC Student Council Launches New Buddy System to Foster Support and Friendship

OIC Student Council Launches New Buddy System to Foster Support and Friendship - Student Council Buddy
Helping Students Settle in with Support and Friendship
Starting a new school can be both challenging and daunting, but thanks to the OIC Buddy System, no student has to face it alone. The Oxford International College Student Council recently introduced this initiative to provide students with guidance, support, and friendship as they settle into school life.
The programme pairs students with more experienced peers who can offer advice on academic challenges, university applications, and adjusting to life at OIC. More than just a mentoring scheme, the Buddy System aims to create a strong sense of community, ensuring that every student feels supported and connected.

A Step Towards a More Supportive Community

The primary goal of the programme was to enhance student well-being through meaningful peer connections. By pairing newer students with those who had already experienced similar challenges, the initiative helped ease anxieties and build a solid support network.

“It has been amazing to see students come together to support one another,” said a representative from the Student Council. “We wanted to make sure that everyone at OIC felt part of a welcoming and encouraging community. The Buddy System has been a great success in achieving that.”

Beyond Mentorship: Building Friendships and Confidence

The impact of the initiative extended far beyond academic support. Many students who took part in the programme found lasting friendships and valuable life skills. The system encouraged collaboration, improved confidence, and allowed students to learn from each other in an informal, friendly setting.

One student shared: “It would be great to have someone else who understood what I was going through and could offer advice. Now, I feel more confident and ready to help others too.”

A Lasting Initiative with Promising Future Plans

Following the overwhelmingly positive feedback, the Student Council plans to continue and expand the OIC Buddy System. Future developments may include additional support structures, social events, and opportunities for buddies to engage in group activities.

The success of the initiative highlights how peer mentorship can significantly improve student life, reinforcing the idea that education is about more than just academics—it’s about building a thriving, supportive community.

With initiatives like this, Oxford International College continues to prioritise student welfare, ensuring that every student has the resources, encouragement, and companionship they need to flourish.
