With a number of early offers already received from prestigious universities in the UK and across the world, there is already much to celebrate here at OIC.
Among those marking a truly memorable moment is Year 13 student David, who has received an offer of study from New York University (NYU) — a significant and well-earned achievement.
NYU is one of the world’s leading global research universities, based in the heart of New York City and consistently ranked among the top institutions internationally.
I applied to sociology under the College of Arts and Science at NYU, and when I first applied, I was honestly pretty chill. But when I was accepted, I was really excited. So, I was on a plane back to China, for Christmas and the Wi-Fi was really bad. It took me an hour to open the offer letter, but when I opened it, I was really excited! I was like sharing it to everyone! And the first person I shared it to, a OIC was Toby because he's the best.
before joining OIC, my goal was to get into, G5 (universities) in the UK and top 30s in the US, and NYU was on my radar because it's in New York. I just really like New York, it’s a city that fits my energy! There's a lot of opportunities to explore my interests.
The pathway here is tailored for me by having all these opportunities and activities for me to explore. For example, in GCSE I participated and DofE (Duke of Edinburgh) and in AS (Yr 12) Jason would send us all kinds of emails introducing us to, like, all kinds of events and activities. For example, like I participated in Spirit AI in AS (Yr 12). And I think what's more valuable is not just the destination and university, but the process of exploring what I like.
I think DofE is a really key component in my application because I was able to gain a lot of new experiences. For example, I was camping in the wild and need to learn how to work as a team and to resolve disagreements within teammates. And that experience and self-growth is, really important component that I need to be mentioning in my essays.
Our teachers will find our academic strength by not just answering the question when we ask it, but exploring the question with us. So they would go into something that's really got some depth and probably like university level stuff or we probably don't understand, but like when they show it to us, we know it's something that's, you know, we see the level. And that process of exploring and discovering really triggers my, my interest and my curiosity!
Studying alongside people from different cultural backgrounds, really broadened my horizon because people eat differently, chat differently and study differently, sleep differently, and I just see a lot of possibilities here and the person that sits next to you in registration might just become an Oxbridge student tomorrow. So there’s like a lot of possibilities to explore.
To sum up my experience in OIC in one sentence I'd say it's turbulent yet rewarding because there is just a lot of ups and downs and a lot of challenges that that I got to face and there's a lot of reward and growth afterwards
We are incredibly proud of all that David has achieved and look forward to seeing him begin this exciting next chapter at New York University.
Congratulations, David.
