From Farm to Fork: Students Explore Sustainable Food at Oxford City Farm

From Farm to Fork Students Explore Sustainable Food at Oxford City Farm - From Farm to Fork Students Explore Sustainable Food at Oxford City Farm
Students enjoyed a hands-on day of sustainable food production, harvesting fresh ingredients, preparing seasonal dishes, and discovering the importance of responsible farming.
Learning extends far beyond the classroom at Oxford International College, and recently our students had the opportunity to experience sustainability first-hand during a visit to Oxford City Farm.

The visit offered an immersive introduction to sustainable growing, ethical food production and seasonal cooking, giving students the chance to see how fresh ingredients make the journey from farm to table.

Working with produce harvested directly from the farm, students prepared a variety of delicious dishes, including homemade pesto, roasted broad beans, fresh butter, garlic bread, kale crisps and a vibrant carrot salad. By harvesting ingredients themselves before cooking, students gained a greater appreciation for where food comes from and the importance of using fresh, locally grown produce.

Alongside the cooking activities, students enjoyed a guided tour of the farm, learning about sustainable farming practices and the role that community farms play in supporting local food systems and biodiversity.

The experience also provided plenty of opportunities to interact with the farm's animals. Students fed and petted a range of animals, as well as taking part in practical farm tasks, including mucking out, giving them a genuine insight into the daily care and responsibility involved in animal welfare.

Experiences like these encourage students to think more deeply about sustainability while developing practical life skills, teamwork and a stronger connection with the environment. By combining hands-on learning with real-world experiences, students gain valuable perspectives that complement their academic studies and inspire them to become thoughtful, globally minded citizens.

We would like to thank everyone at Oxford City Farm for providing such an engaging and memorable experience. It was a fantastic day of learning, collaboration and, of course, delicious food.
