Celebrating Oxford Heritage at the Bannister Miles

Celebrating Oxford Heritage at the Bannister Miles - Celebrating Oxford Heritage at the Bannister Miles
Students proudly took part in the 2026 Bannister Miles event in Oxford, joining runners from across the city to celebrate the 72nd anniversary of Sir Roger Bannister’s historic sub-four-minute mile at Iffley Road.
Held at the iconic Iffley Road Track, where Bannister made sporting history in 1954, the event brought together participants of all ages and abilities in a celebration of perseverance, sporting spirit, and community. The atmosphere throughout the evening was inspiring, with runners, spectators, and local organisations coming together to honour one of Oxford’s most famous achievements.

For our students, the event was not only an opportunity to challenge themselves physically, but also to experience a unique part of Oxford’s heritage firsthand. Taking part in such a meaningful local tradition reflected the enthusiasm, resilience, and sense of community that are central to life at OIC.

We are incredibly proud of all the students who participated, representing the college with determination, positivity, and team spirit throughout the event. Their involvement highlights the importance of balance beyond the classroom and the value of embracing opportunities that build confidence, wellbeing, and lasting memories.
