OIC Students Submit 27 Early University Applications

Preparing for Success - Preparing for Success

Preparing For Success! The 15 October UCAS early application deadline marks a significant moment in the academic calendar for students aspiring to study at some of the UK's most competitive universities and on highly selective degree programmes.

This year, Oxford International College (OIC) has submitted 27 early applications, reflecting both the ambition and breadth of interests within our Year 13 cohort.

And the excitement is already building. Despite applications only recently being submitted, students have begun receiving university offers, including from the University of Manchester for Mathematics and Statistics and King's College London for Engineering.

Expert Guidance. Personalised Pathways.

At OIC, preparing for a competitive university application begins long before the UCAS deadline.

Through our Global Strategic Pathways, students benefit from weekly sessions with specialist Pathway Advisors who combine academic expertise with an in-depth understanding of their respective disciplines and university admissions requirements.

Our approach recognises that no two students have identical ambitions. From choosing the right degree programme and developing a competitive academic profile to preparing a compelling personal statement, every stage is supported by knowledgeable specialists.

Our Pathway Advisors bring valuable academic insight to this process:

  • Clinical & Life Sciences – Toby Blundell: A biochemist who supports students aspiring to study Medicine, Dentistry, Biomedical Sciences and other life science disciplines, helping them understand the academic and wider experiences needed for competitive applications.
  • Social & Commerce Sciences – Will Goulder: A social scientist who guides students interested in Law, Economics, Finance, Accounting, Business Management, International Relations, Politics, PPE, Geography and Sociology, encouraging them to explore their chosen subjects critically and develop strong academic profiles.
  • Physical & Applied Sciences and Computational & Data Sciences – Dr Kirsten Dickers: Our Director of University Admissions & Careers, whose background spans engineering and the natural sciences. Having studied Natural Sciences at the University of Cambridge before completing her PhD, Dr Dickers brings valuable academic and university admissions experience to students pursuing subjects including Engineering, Physics, Mathematics and Computer Science.

More Than an Application

Our university preparation programme extends well beyond completing UCAS forms.

Through regular individual guidance, academic enrichment and supercurricular opportunities, students are encouraged to demonstrate genuine intellectual curiosity, explore their chosen disciplines in depth and develop the confidence to articulate their ambitions.

As part of the early application process, Dr Dickers and the Pathways team met with students preparing to submit their applications, reviewing their choices and supporting them through the final stages.

"I'm incredibly proud of the calibre and breadth of our applicants," says Dr Kirsten Dickers, Director of University Admissions & Careers. "Our focus is always on helping students make informed choices and present an authentic, compelling picture of their academic interests, achievements and potential."

The Next Stage: Interviews and International Applications

With the early UCAS deadline behind them, our students are now preparing for another important stage: university interviews.

Students applying to Oxford, Cambridge and Medicine programmes will benefit from multiple mock interviews, designed to develop their confidence, strengthen their ability to think critically under pressure and help them communicate their knowledge and ideas effectively.

Meanwhile, the Pathways team is turning its attention to students applying to universities in the United States and Hong Kong, where important deadlines fall in November, before supporting the wider Year 13 cohort towards the main UCAS equal consideration deadline in January.

Defining Futures Through Expert Support

At OIC, exceptional university outcomes are built on much more than academic results alone. They reflect a carefully structured approach to university preparation, where expert teaching, specialist advice and personalised pathways work together to help students realise their ambitions.

From the first conversations about future careers to the final interview, our students are supported, challenged and encouraged to aim high.
