OIC Recognised as a BSA Sleep Champion

Sleep Champions - Sleep Champions
Where wellbeing fuels achievement
We are delighted to announce that Oxford International College has been officially awarded Sleep Champion status by the Boarding Schools’ Association (BSA) – a recognition of our outstanding commitment to student wellbeing and academic success through the promotion of healthy sleep habits.

At Oxford International College, we know that rested students are successful students. Scientific research continues to confirm that good-quality sleep is essential for:

- ✅ Improved memory retention and cognitive performance
- ✅ Greater focus and concentration in lessons
- ✅ Enhanced problem-solving, creativity, and exam results
- ✅ Stronger emotional regulation and resilience

In short, sleep is not just about wellbeing – it’s a cornerstone of academic achievement.

This accolade reflects the work of our entire community to foster a culture where students are educated about the importance of sleep, supported in developing healthy routines, and empowered to take charge of their own wellbeing as a key part of their educational journey.

We would like to extend a special thank you to our Director of Boarding, Kieran Jones, whose leadership and passion for student wellbeing have been central to this achievement. We are also deeply grateful to his strong team of dedicated house parents, led by Assistant Head of Boarding, Teresa Clack, for creating nurturing environments where sleep, rest, and healthy habits are made a daily priority.

From structured evening routines in boarding to guidance on screen time, nutrition, and time management, we have made sleep a central part of the learning environment.

David Walker, Executive Director, Boarding and Director at BSA/TIOB commented that our applications was, "..quite simply, brilliant! We’ve not seen any responses that are this high quality and it is clear you’ve really taken this project to the next level. It goes without saying that you’ll be awarded ‘Sleep Champion’ status."

Dr Watson, Principal at OIC shared, "We’re incredibly proud to be named a BSA Sleep Champion and to lead the way in demonstrating how prioritising sleep leads directly to better learning, stronger outcomes, and greater student success."
